JUAREZ MISSION
High School & College Youth
Spring Break
March 11, 2006

Rocha-Jaquez Home, 2006
During Spring Break, the youth of Grace Presbyterian had the awesome opportunity to participate in a truly life-changing experience. That Sunday in 2006 the crew, composed of 19 youth and adults, received a heartfelt blessing from the Curt Steinhorst at the 8:30 service and promptly departed to El Paso, TX. The group crossed the border into Juarez, Mexico, escorted by an
Amor Ministries liason. Upon arrival at the campsite, a secured enclosure filled with many other industrious volunteers, students were responsible to set up tents and their bedding, as well as the kitchen area. Over the next four days, a group of individuals transformed into a team, united to build a home for a hardworking family, with the help of the Holy Spirit. For $1,800 (the cost of the house...and the price of most computers), they built a home for a family who lived in a shelter made of cardboard, scraps of electrical wiring, and miscellaneous trash only a week before. The challenges created by the project, the weather, the drastically different environment, and the time and effort spent brought new perspective to the students' and sponsors lives, and changed the life of a wonderful Mexican family of five.

July Update: Keith, the "Barnabas" helper assigned to Grace in 2005, visited the family to install much-needed smoke detectors with 10-year batteries. He sent pictures back to Grace, which showed the industrious father had acquired an air conditioning unit, used remaining tar paper to construct walls, and formed a fence in front. The entire side yard was paved to create a patio. The spot may already be unrecognizable to the mission team, and the happy family is delighted with their new sink, sofa, and curtains for the four windows.
