Today's Main Idea: Live into your true identity.

Today's Reflection: 1 Samuel 7:12 "12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far has the LORD helped us.""

There is snow all over my yard for the first official day of spring!  Yes, God is still the ultimate weatherman and the only one who controls the universe.  It was a slow ride into the church parking lot this morning but all the while I marveled at the proof of God's glory and majesty.

Take that weather channel!

I'm preaching on this passage from the Old Testament this morning.  I'm focusing on the topic of remembering milestones along our faith journey.  It is relevant because today is the 30 year anniversary at Grace Presbyterian and I'm feeling quite honored to be the pastor.  I'm quoting from the founding pastor, "faith precedes understanding."

To summarize today's message, we all see things through the lens of experience and history.  If we do not perceive history as being our own, we open ourselves up to repeating the mistakes of our predecessors.  The Bible is not a history book, but it is a history of salvation.  The story of the scriptures needs to be our story or we face the reality of repeating the sins of our faith family.

"Living into your true identity" has been the idea through these last few days of devotionals.  I believe history is another element that influences your understanding of who you are.  I hope the history you choose to make your own is God's history and not merely the experiences of your earthly life.

I realize that with snow on the ground the attendance might be lighter than normal.  That's o.k.  If the snow is still falling, I'm sure my wife will wrestle with whether or not to bundle up our boys to make the jaunt into church.

Regardless of who is here today, I'm excited.

And if the praise band doesn't show up for the first service, I can always pull out my guitar and have a gospel service of all my favorites.

Action Step:  The history of scripture is your history of faith, so read it.

Today's Prayer:

"Lord, help me remember the spiritual milestones from my journey of faith.  Put those moments and experiences before my mind today so that my perception is shaped by the good history of your presence in my history of faith.  I ask for faith today, so that I might understand how to be your child more faithfully.  In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
